Nepenthes alata

domain Eukaryota Nepenthes alata is a carvinorous pitcher plant endemic to the Philippines. Members of the genus Nepenthes are called tropical pitcher plants or monkey cups because monkeys have been observed to drink rainwater from the pitchers. Rotund pitchers grow along the ground, while more slender pitchers hang from vines. The pitcher may reach 18 cm (7 in) in length. Nectar glands on the underside of the lid attract prey. The pitchers are filled with secretions that attract insects, which may fall into the cups where they are digested.
