phylum Arthropoda Marrella splendens is a stem-group arthropod, the most common fossil from the middle Cambrian Burgess Shale of British Colombia. Length is 2 cm or less. The head shield has 2 pairs of rearward spikes, and 2 pairs of antennae underneath. It was probably a bottom-dwelling detritivore. Marrella was the first fossil collected from the Burgess Shale by Charles Walcott in 1909.
