phylum Platyhelminthes Girardia tigrina is a species of dugesiid planarian native to the Americas. It has been accidentally introduced into Europe and Japan. Length is about 10 mm. The head has two broad and short auricles. The two eyes are two pigment-free patches. This species feeds on small invertebrates such as isopods and insects. It is studied in labs for its ability to reproduce by rupturing the body and regeneration. It can also regenerate parts that are cut from the body.
